I found that Barcelona-based brand Gimaguas captured the mood with its simple sheer shirting, studded belts and swimsuit-tops, as did Aussie label Deiji Studios, via elasticated-waist trousers and bow-tie cotton blouses. I also saw hints of it in the A-list wardrobes of Harry Styles and Mary-Kate Olsen, and in the styling of content creators, such as Blanca Miro, Leandra Medine and Vogue’s very own associate fashion director Maddy Fass. But, more than anything, the crux of the aesthetic seemed to lie in the juxtaposition between clothing and accessories: the former of which erred more minimalist and streamlined, rendered in muted tones of grey, black and white, while the latter felt decidedly crafty and eclectic, with cord necklaces, rope sandals, silken bandanas and crochet totes.
The more I thought about it, the more I saw a throughline with the trends that have emerged in recent years: the return to Calvin Klein’s ’90s greyscale minimalism, as championed by The Row, the craftcore stylings of Gabriela Hearst, and of course, boho’s bells and whistles comeback tour, courtesy of Chemena Kamali at Chloé. Haute hippie sits in the middle of this venn diagram – a glorious amalgam of them all.
