The New York Knicks made a very shocking change at the head coach position following their first run to the Eastern Conference finals in 25 years. After the Knicks fell to the Indiana Pacers, they fired coach Tom Thibodeau despite a 5-year run where he went 226-174 while guiding New York on its most successful run in decades.
Now, the Knicks have to find a new coach and they have been looking around the league hoping for an interview. The popular name has been Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd who ended his stellar career playing for the Knicks in the 2012-13 season, but the Knicks have looked into other candidates as well.
Former Philadelphia 76ers assistant coach Ime Udoka has been a name for them as well. The Knicks requested permission to interview Kidd, Udoka, now the coach of the Houston Rockets, and Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch. They were denied by all three teams.
The Knicks will have to look in other directions now to replace Thibodeau as they look to build off this run to the NBA’s final four and continue to grow as a group. The Sixers, meanwhile, will look to catch the Knicks in the standings and in the East.
